.lk domain price in Sri Lanka: what you actually pay in 2026
Last updated: 26 August 2026 · Reviewed: 26 August 2026 · By: Alston Antony
A standard top-level .lk in 2026 costs LKR 5,000 per year direct at LK Domain Registry (Economy CAT2, VAT-inclusive), or LKR 3,500 to LKR 4,500 through an authorised agent (LankaHost, register.lk, Provider.lk), all checked 2026-08-27. Second-level namespaces (.com.lk, .org.lk, .net.lk) sit in Budget CAT3 at LKR 900 to LKR 1,000. The cheapest sticker is not always the cheapest three-year hold; LankaHost's LKR 3,500 first year renews at LKR 4,000 while Provider.lk holds a flat LKR 4,500.
Direct at LK Domain Registry: the reference tariff
LK Domain Registry publishes a five-tier tariff on the domains.lk pricing page (checked 2026-08-27), and every authorised agent is discounting or marking up against this reference. All figures below are VAT-inclusive per the registry's own labelling.
| Category | What it covers | LKR / year |
|---|---|---|
| Budget (CAT3) | Second-level only: .com.lk, .org.lk, .edu.lk | LKR 1,000 |
| Economy (CAT2) | Standard top-level .lk (4+ letters, non-numeric) | LKR 5,000 |
| Standard (CAT1) | .lk bundled with .com.lk, .org.lk, .edu.lk | LKR 8,000 |
| Desirable (CAT5) | 3-letter names or 8-10 digit numeric | LKR 15,000 |
| Premium (CAT4) | 2-letter names or 2-7 digit numeric | LKR 40,000 |
Multi-year direct at the registry is where the honest savings sit: a ten-year Economy .lk is LKR 30,000 at LK Domain Registry, averaging LKR 3,000 per year, undercutting every one-year agent sticker. LankaHost lists a matching ten-year Economy at LKR 25,000 (LKR 2,500 per year averaged), which is the cheapest long-term hold we found on 2026-08-27.
Authorised agents priced side-by-side
Sri Lankan .lk agents compete on year-one price, renewal price, and how much hosting they bundle on top. The three we track are Provider.lk (authorised agent since 2009), LankaHost (accredited agent since 2009, managing over 7,000 active .lk domains per their own about page) and register.lk. Every figure below is a live sticker rate as of 2026-08-27.
| Vendor | Year one | Renewal / year | Two-year total | Ten-year total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LankaHost | LKR 3,500 | LKR 4,000 | LKR 7,500 | LKR 25,000 |
| register.lk | LKR 4,100 | LKR 4,100 | LKR 8,200 | LKR 41,000 |
| Provider.lk | LKR 4,500 | LKR 4,500 | LKR 8,550 (2yr -5%) | LKR 27,000 (10yr -40%) |
| LK Domain Registry (direct) | LKR 5,000 | LKR 5,000 | LKR 9,500 | LKR 30,000 |
Second-level Budget (CAT3) .com.lk pricing tells the same story compressed: Provider.lk lists LKR 900, LK Domain Registry LKR 1,000, register.lk lists LKR 1,000 sale, all checked 2026-08-27. Because the sticker range is narrow, .com.lk decisions come down to which agent you already trust for your main .lk.
Year one vs. renewal: the price gap that matters
The Sri Lankan .lk market's year-one prices are often loss leaders and its renewal prices are where the agent makes margin. LankaHost's Economy CAT2 sheet publishes this openly: "Rs 3,500 / Renewal Rs 4,000" on the same table row (checked 2026-08-27). Register.lk lists LKR 4,100 without a separate renewal split; Provider.lk publishes a flat LKR 4,500 across years. Direct at LK Domain Registry, the LKR 5,000 tariff has been stable since the current CAT restructure. Over a three-year hold, the LankaHost total is LKR 3,500 + LKR 4,000 + LKR 4,000 = LKR 11,500, versus Provider.lk's LKR 13,500, versus registry direct at LKR 15,000. The sticker gap narrows once you look beyond year one.
Multi-year discounts
Provider.lk publishes the cleanest multi-year discount ladder in Sri Lanka: 5% off at two years, 20% off at five years, 40% off at ten years (checked 2026-08-27). Applied to their LKR 4,500 Economy sticker, that lands at LKR 8,550 for two years, LKR 18,000 for five and LKR 27,000 for ten. LK Domain Registry direct offers a flat multi-year: LKR 9,500 for two years, LKR 20,000 for five, LKR 30,000 for ten Economy CAT2 (per the registry's own pricing table, checked 2026-08-27). LankaHost's ten-year Economy at LKR 25,000 is the lowest overall we found; multi-year is usually where a small business with a settled brand should be shopping.
What is included with the domain fee
A .lk domain fee at LK Domain Registry buys the registry record and the DNS delegation, nothing more. Agents throw in extras that vary sharply: LankaHost bundles "Free DNS Management, Free URL Forwarding, Full Ownership of the domain name, 30 Days Grace Period" (per their own product page, checked 2026-08-27). Provider.lk bundles free DirectAdmin-powered starter hosting (1 GB SSD, 100 GB monthly transfer, hosted in Singapore) as long as the domain remains active. Bundled starter hosting is honest at the price point but is not a substitute for real hosting for a business site; treat it as free email and staging rather than production.
Why the cheapest sticker is not the cheapest hold
The "cheapest .lk domain wins" argument treats a domain like a commodity, and it is close to right for a single-year test. Where it breaks is at the three-year mark, where LankaHost's LKR 3,500 first-year loss lead becomes LKR 4,000 renewal and the total pulls close to a flat-rate agent. It also breaks when the cheap agent bundles email or hosting that you actually rely on, then reprices at renewal or degrades service; the money you save on the domain gets clawed back on the hosting. The right question is not "who is cheapest on year one" but "who has the most stable renewal price and a clean Change of Agent path". By that measure, LK Domain Registry direct and Provider.lk both rank cleanly; the year-one loss leaders rank higher only if you plan to move each year.
Which agent we would pick, and why
Our default recommendation for a Sri Lankan business registering one .lk that they intend to keep is Provider.lk for a two-to-five-year hold (flat LKR 4,500, 5-20% multi-year discount, clean bundled hosting for staging) or LK Domain Registry direct for a ten-year hold (LKR 30,000 flat, no agent risk). LankaHost is the right pick if you want to test the name for one year at the lowest possible sticker (LKR 3,500) and are honest with yourself about the renewal step up. If you already run hosting at register.lk or LankaHost, keeping the domain with the same vendor cuts admin overhead by one login; if hosting is elsewhere, the smaller Sri Lankan resellers add no value over the primary agents.

Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest .lk domain in 2026?
For a top-level .lk in 2026, LankaHost is cheapest first year at LKR 3,500 but renews at LKR 4,000; register.lk is LKR 4,100 flat; Provider.lk is LKR 4,500 flat, all checked 2026-08-27. Direct at LK Domain Registry is LKR 5,000. For a .com.lk, Provider.lk lists LKR 900 vs the registry's LKR 1,000.
Why is a .lk cheaper at an agent than at the registry?
Agents earn margin on hosting, email and renewal, so several use year-one .lk price as a loss lead. LankaHost's LKR 3,500 first-year Economy is exactly this pattern: the record still lives at LK Domain Registry, but the agent is subsidising sign-up to earn later revenue on hosting bundles.
Are these LKR .lk prices VAT-inclusive?
LK Domain Registry's tariff prices are labelled VAT-inclusive on their own pricing page (checked 2026-08-27). Agent prices as shown here are the sticker rates at their pricing pages; some agents add SSCL or a small handling fee at checkout, so treat the LKR figure as the floor rather than the final.
How often do .lk prices change?
LK Domain Registry restructured its CAT tiers with the current LKR 1,000 / LKR 5,000 / LKR 8,000 pricing during 2025 and has been stable since, checked 2026-08-27. Agent promotional pricing (year-one loss leads) turns over more often; the direct registry number is the reliable long-term reference.
Is a ten-year .lk a good idea?
Sometimes. Ten years averaged at LKR 3,000 per year at LK Domain Registry (LKR 30,000 for the term) undercuts every one-year agent price. Downside is that if the agent goes out of business mid-term you have paid ahead, so the ten-year lock is safer done direct at the registry than through a small reseller.
