Wix for Sri Lankan websites

Wix is the fastest way to get a decent Sri Lankan brochure site online with zero technical work. Wix Light starts at USD 17 per month and Wix Core at USD 29 per month (checked 27 August 2026); a Sri Lankan card is charged in USD so the real LKR-landed cost of Core is about LKR 9,600 per month with a 3 percent FX markup at USD/LKR 320. Wix Payments is not available in Sri Lanka, so ecommerce needs a PayHere or WebXPay workaround. The "Wix is the cheapest way to launch a Sri Lankan business site" pitch, which we argue against here, forgets that USD 17 to 39 is 5 to 10 times what a Hostinger-hosted WordPress site costs.
What Wix is and where it fits
Wix is a bundled website builder that provides the editor, the templates, the hosting and the SSL in one monthly subscription. Wix's audience is a non-technical owner who values setup speed over portability - a Kandy dentist, a Colombo yoga studio, a small consulting practice. The drag-and-drop editor lets you place any element anywhere without a stylesheet, and the AI Assistant (ADI) will draft a starter site from three prompts. That fluency on day one is the whole reason Wix exists; the trade-off shows up on year three, when leaving costs a full rebuild.

Connecting a .lk domain to Wix
Wix accepts any external domain, including every .lk namespace, on any paid plan. Setup path: buy the .lk domain at LK Domain Registry or a reseller, in the Wix dashboard choose Domains, Connect a Domain You Already Own, and paste the domain name. Wix returns either a set of nameservers to update at the .lk registrar or a pair of A and CNAME records depending on the method chosen. Propagation is usually 1 to 4 hours; the SSL certificate provisions automatically once the DNS check passes. LK Domain Registry (IPS Sri Lanka on second reference) keeps ownership; Wix only resolves the traffic.
Selling on Wix in Sri Lanka
Wix Payments, the platform's native gateway, is not available in Sri Lanka (checked 27 August 2026 against Wix's own country list). A Sri Lankan Wix store therefore needs one of three workarounds: a manual payment method that hands off to PayHere or WebXPay's link-based checkout, a Stripe account routed through a foreign business entity, or PayPal-receive-only for international customers. The lock-in problem, priced honestly
Lock-in is Wix's largest hidden cost. Wix content exports as an XML file with no working template; images download one at a time or through a bulk download; the drag-and-drop layout does not translate to any other builder. Moving a three-year-old Wix site to WordPress is a full rebuild - copy paste content, source theme, recreate every page. Budget it at LKR 60,000 to 250,000 when the day comes. That number is what makes Wix at USD 29 per month look cheap today and expensive in year three. WordPress on the same hosting bill migrates whole in one afternoon between any two cPanel hosts.
